Although every woman without exception goes through this transition in midlife, menopause is still rarely discussed, and most women (and men) do not fully understand what it means or involves. Overall, it remains a largely taboo subject; this is partly because women were not included among the doctors and specialists who first studied and defined it. As a result, centuries of misinformation and misogyny lie behind this topic, leading to misunderstandings and a sense of shame around discussing it.
The fact that we ignore or avoid talking about menopause is a major issue, as it concerns every woman’s health — both physical and mental — and is a fundamental human right. Acknowledging this taboo and educating women about menopause and its effects is a means of empowerment and liberation.
Fortunately, we have seen positive changes in recent years, and in the UK for example, more and more women and healthcare professionals are speaking openly about menopause and its effects on health — including yoga teachers such as Petra Coveney, founder of Menopause Yoga.
Menopause Yoga is a style of yoga designed to give women tools to help them navigate the main symptoms of menopause. It promotes a positive approach, viewing menopause as a bio-psycho-social-spiritual transition in a woman’s life rather than an end in itself. This approach offers in particular:
Adapted postures to release tension, reduce inflammation and joint pain, and support digestion.
Suitable movement practices to maintain mobility and strength, and improve posture and balance.
Breathing exercises to help ease hot flushes and anxiety.
Relaxation and mindfulness techniques to support relaxation, emotional regulation, and better sleep.
A space for information and understanding of the bio-psycho-social changes linked to this stage of life
Menopause Yoga aims to inform and empower women so they can approach the emotional, physical, and psychological changes they experience with greater confidence and serenity.

Trained by Petra Coveney, founder of Menopause Yoga and author of “Menopause Yoga – A Holistic Guide To Supporting Women On Their Menopause Journey”, I integrate the following into my workshops:
adapted yoga postures
targeted breathing exercises
guided relaxation practices
moments of mindfulness
practical advice and scientific resources
Each workshop also includes a sharing circle, designed to encourage free expression and mutual support in an intimate and confidential setting. These spaces are an invitation to take a break, reflect, listen to one’s deeper needs and to other women's experiences, and begin a new dialogue with oneself.
Ultimately, these workshops are designed to support a personal journey, offering space for both individual and collective growth.
2 to 3-hour long workshops, with information sharing and concrete tools to get through this transition: adapted postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and mindfulness exercices and a sharing circle.
